DNA Peer Mentorship Program
The Bard Peer Mentoring Program is a year-long mentoring program at Bard High School Early College Queens (BHSECQ) that pairs 9th and 10th grade students with students in the college program. The goal of the Peer Mentoring Program is to provide high school students with guidance, support and friendship that will help them succeed academically, socially and emotionally. Peer Mentors, who are current students in the college program, will meet regularly with their mentees, providing them with the resources and tools to successfully navigate BHSECQ.
Expectations of Peer Mentors
Peer Mentors will serve as role-models to their 9th and 10th grade peers, modeling leadership, kindness, integrity, hard-work and positivity. Additionally, Peer Mentors should adhere to the following expectations:

Be a current Year 1 or Year 2 at BHSECQ

Be in good academic standing

Commit to serving as a mentor for the entire academic school year

Attend all scheduled Mentor trainings, Mentor-Mentee bonding meetings, and one-on-one meetings with their mentees

Meet with their mentee(s) to set academic goals and create plans to achieve them

Utilize their knowledge of BHSECQ to recommend academic and socio-emotional resources to their mentee(s)

Utilize their experience as students in the college program to help the transition for 9th and 10th grade students

Commit to creating an inclusive, welcoming and respectful environment for their mentee(s) and all members of the BHSECQ community

Model positive interactions with faculty, staff, administration, students, serving as a positive role model to their mentee(s)
